📍️ Southbank Centre,
‘Winter Light’, Hayward Gallery
I had the joy of stumbling across an exciting outdoor exhibition on London’s Southbank yesterday evening: ‘Winter Light’, curated by the Hayward Gallery.
Full of gorgeous colour and brightness, these pieces were a giant treat to behold on a dark winter’s evening!
Some personal faves were Tavares Strachan’s neon work, reading ‘We Are In This Together’. Originally created as part of his community project in Colorado, this phrase has a new found pertinence.
Shezad Dawood’s neon piece, ‘Mahakala’, the Tibetan Esoteric Buddhism figure who anthropomorphises the abstract notion of transformation and selflessness, perfectly encapsulates the idea of light triumphing over darkness.
Other site specific works are particularly beautiful- David Ogle’s light sculpture illuminates the riverside, as tracks of colour crawl up branches, heightening the relationship between nature and technology that is pretty emblematic of the urban landscape.
Have a walk n check out this exciting art IRL! So uplifting right now.
